"Before the translanguaging-in-education workshop, I used to think that the students' home language is an obstacle for learning school language and other content subjects. After learning about the translanguaging pedagogy, I put myself in the students' shoes and started looking at them from their point of view.
For example, when I picked up some words from the students' home language and used those words in the sentence order of the school language (Thai), students corrected me explaining that their language works differently from the school language and taught me the difference of the word orders between their home language and school language. This helped me to speak their language better the next time. I realized the same is true for my students. If I teach students the school language on the basis of their home language, they will learn the school language better with less confusion and also develop their home language."
